Akshay Kumar may have spent over three decades in the film industry, but retirement is clearly not on his mind. The actor recently addressed the topic during the trailer launch event of Welcome To The Jungle in Mumbai and responded in his trademark humorous style.
Akshay Kumar Has No Plans To Slow Down Anytime Soon
Akshay Kumar and the massive ensemble cast of Welcome To The Jungle came together on Wednesday for the grand launch of the film’s trailer. The event stood out for its elaborate jungle-themed setup, complete with a giant artificial waterfall that added to the adventurous atmosphere of the action-comedy.
The launch event saw the presence of Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tusshar Kapoor, Yashpal Sharma, Johny Lever, Aftab Shivdasani, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, director Ahmed Khan, producer Ajit Andhare, co-producer Shaira Ahmed Khan and dialogue writer Farhad Samji.
During the media interaction, Akshay opened up about why he does not see himself stepping away from work anytime soon. The actor admitted that the thought of retirement occasionally crosses his mind, especially during his early morning routine. However, he quickly reminds himself of the responsibilities waiting for him on set.
Speaking about it, Akshay said, “I do feel like retiring sometimes; this thought comes to me at 4 am when I wake up. But in five seconds, I remember I have to be on a shoot, where 300 people are waiting for me. Then I tell myself I will think about retirement the next day; 36 years have passed doing this. If I retire, what will happen.”
Akshay Kumar Hates The Word ‘Retire’
The actor then added another humorous take on what life after retirement would look like for him. “Retire ho gaya toh main ghar pe baith ke electrician ka kaam karunga, main dog walker ban jaunga, gardener ban jaunga, ghar ke saare kaam mujhe milenge. Mujhe lagta hai usse achha main kaam pe jaun aur retire na hoon.”
When someone from the audience pointed out that retirement would at least allow him to spend more time with his family, Akshay responded with another witty remark. “Main unke saath baithta hoon, doosre din woh bolte hain aap kaam pe jao,” he said, leaving the audience laughing.
Behind the jokes, however, Akshay Kumar also shared his philosophy on life and staying active. He said, “I hate the word ‘Retire’. One should retire five minutes before dying. That is still better. I would suggest everyone to keep working.”
