Known for his razor-sharp discipline and unmatched fitness, Akshay Kumar continues to set the bar high even at 58. From waking up at 4 am to maintaining a rigorous workout routine, the Bollywood star has long embodied consistency and control, qualities that also define his on-screen persona. Often hailed as Bollywood’s original “Khiladi,” Akshay built his legacy on high-octane action films and daredevil stunts performed without doubles. Now, after years of exploring comedy and patriotic dramas, the actor is ready to return to his roots, and he wants to do it the hard way.

Akshay Kumar Calls Out VFX-Heavy Action, Pushes For ‘Real’ Stunts

Akshay Kumar began his career as a bona fide action star, earning the nickname ‘Khiladi’ through a string of films that showcased his physical prowess. From Mohra to Jaanwar, he built a reputation for grounded, gritty action. In more recent years, he led films like Holiday, Gabbar Is Back, and Sooryavanshi, his last full-fledged big-scale action entertainer.

However, the actor now believes the genre has drifted too far from its roots.“There is a huge difference in the way action films are being made today. Earlier, the action would be real; now, everything is done in VFX. It’s not fun as it feels fake. I want to make a film, which is real,” Akshay said to news agency PTI.

Akshay Kumar: I Want To Do An Action Film That Is A Real Action Film

Trained in multiple martial arts forms, including Karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Kudo. Akshay emphasised that authenticity matters more than spectacle. He said, “If I’m jumping, then I’m jumping for real and not using VFX, or if I’m kicking, then I’m kicking for real. Not like 15 people helping me kick people. I want to make an action film without the use of VFX. I’m saying this in the era of AI, and people may think what they wish to, but I want to do an action film that is a real action film. The audience can feel how much effort is being put in, unlike the efforts taken with the help of AI or computer.”

Drawing a parallel, Akshay compared action cinema to art. For him, practical stunts are like a hand-painted canvas, imperfect yet authentic. While VFX-driven action feels like a polished digital print. The difference, he believes, is something audiences can sense instantly.

Over the past decade, Akshay’s filmography has shifted. He embraced comedy with franchises like Housefull and films like Good Newwz. At the same time, he leaned into patriotic narratives with projects such as Airlift, Kesari, and Mission Mangal. Often playing characters driven by duty and service.

Akshay Kumar’s Upcoming Projects

Now, he gears up for a new phase. The actor has joined the ensemble cast of the next instalment of the Golmaal franchise. Directed by Rohit Shetty, alongside Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kemmu, and Shreyas Talpade. He also awaits the release of his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla. Directed by Priyadarshan, now scheduled to hit theatres on April 17.

As Akshay Kumar eyes a return to raw, high-impact action, one thing is clear—audiences are ready. After all, it’s been a while since they’ve seen the Khiladi in his full, no-holds-barred action avatar, something he last delivered in Sooryavanshi.
