Amy Schumer went from a hustling stand-up comedian to a major movie star.
“After my dad got MS and we went bankrupt and my mom left him, that period from age 12 to 15 was a really rough time,” Schumer recalled to GQ in a 2015 profile. “And we all suffered from it, my siblings and I. It was just a major struggle, more so than most kids should ever have to deal with.”
As a way to help make ends meet, Schumer started performing comedy sets.
“It made me fearless and unbreakable and so strong — and a leader and maternal,” she added to the outlet.
Schumer’s comedy bits often roasted her dating life.
“I think I get labeled a sex comic just because I’m a woman,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2015. “I feel like a guy could get up here and literally pull his d**k out and everyone would be like, ‘He’s a thinker!’”
Schumer eventually settled down in 2018, marrying chef Chris Fischer after a few months of dating. They welcomed their son, Gene, the next year.
