Music composer Anu Malik has responded to the ongoing debate around the recreated version of Chunnari Chunnari from the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The discussion began after actor Varun Dhawan faced heavy trolling online for the remix track, with social media users comparing it to the original performance featuring Salman Khan. The backlash also triggered wider conversations around Bollywood remakes and nostalgia-driven music.

Speaking about the controversy, Anu Malik chose to focus on positivity. He said, “I think we should not get into it. Frankly, I never get into that. I don’t even think about such things, I have been a positive person all my life, and I like to see good in people. I have not been raised to see the bad in people.”
He further highlighted his gratitude for the actors who have performed his songs over the years. He added, “As a composer, I am Anu Mallik also because I have had great actors in my life. I have been blessed to have Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Chintu ji, Hema Ji, and others. I do a song with the mindset that if I am making the song with 100% dedication, the actor will take it to 1000%, and that is the only way I have seen life.”
Anu Malik also defended the legacy of the original track. He said, “The Chunnari Chunnari song will always remain close to the hearts of music lovers. Salman took the song to a different level, and Varun has also danced his heart out.” He concluded, “I don’t want to see any negativity; I am only looking at the positives.”
Meanwhile, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who originally lent his voice to the track, previously criticised the remake. He said that Varun Dhawan cannot become Salman Khan using his songs, adding to the ongoing debate around Bollywood remixes.
On the work front, Varun Dhawan continues promotions for his upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, while also working on other major projects, including Border 2 and additional Dharma Productions ventures.
