Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally made her highly anticipated appearance at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. And as expected, she turned the red carpet into a spectacle of glamour and couture craftsmanship. Representing India on the global stage once again, the actor arrived in a breathtaking abyss-blue sculptural gown titled Luminara, designed by Amit Aggarwal and styled by Mohit Rai. The futuristic couture creation instantly grabbed attention and also put an end to rumours surrounding her possible absence from this year’s festival.

For Cannes 2026, Amit Aggarwal created Luminara as an exploration of ‘Radiance in motion.’ The designer translated the concept through sculptural construction, engineered craftsmanship, and fluid detailing that reflected movement and light.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a deep sapphire and abyss-blue gown that hugged her frame before flowing into a dramatic mermaid silhouette. The ensemble featured intricate linear embellishments that created an almost liquid-metal illusion under the flashing cameras. The metallic textures and crystal detailing added depth and luminosity, giving the outfit a cosmic and futuristic feel.

At the core of the couture piece was Amit Aggarwal’s signature Crystal Vein embroidery technique. According to the designer, the gown took over 1,500 hours of craftsmanship to complete. Thousands of crystalline embellishments came together within sculptural lattice-like structures, carefully engineered to refract light and transform with movement.
The silhouette itself leaned heavily into Aggarwal’s signature aesthetic. It featured a plunging neckline, structured feather-inspired shoulders, and a fitted mermaid-style hemline. Adding an Indian touch to the global couture look, flowing cape-like drapes extended from the arms, subtly resembling a traditional dupatta while maintaining the futuristic mood of the ensemble.
About Aishwarya’s Look
The styling remained controlled and elegant. Unlike some of her previous Cannes appearances that embraced heavy maximalism, this year’s look focused on clean sophistication. Aishwarya kept her hair soft and side-swept with cascading curls, while her makeup stayed understated pared with a muted nude lipstick. She completed the look with a striking diamond-and-sapphire choker necklace that mirrored the sharp architectural lines of the gown.
Amit Aggarwal also shared a detailed note about the couture creation on social media. He wrote, “Bringing together cinematic presence, sculptural couture, and material innovation, the appearance honours Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s enduring relationship with the Cannes red carpet through a vision of contemporary Indian couture on the global stage.”
Aishwarya, who serves as a longtime global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris, also shared a warm moment with fellow ambassador Eva Longoria on the Cannes red carpet. Videos and pictures of the reunion quickly went viral online.
This year also marks Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s 24th appearance at Cannes. She first attended the festival in 2002 for the premiere of Devdas. More than two decades later, she continues to remain one of the most anticipated Indian celebrities on the global red carpet, effortlessly blending cinematic glamour with contemporary Indian couture.
