Dostana remains one of the most popular urban comedy dramas produced by Dharma Productions. Ever since the sequel was announced, Dostana 2 has frequently made headlines for delays, casting reshuffles and behind-the-scenes developments. Now, the project has reportedly hit another roadblock.

Karan Johar-Produced Dostana 2 Turns Directorless After Advait Chandan Drops Sequel

According to a recent Variety India report, filmmaker Advait Chandan has stepped away from the film. However, the makers have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding the development. Advait Chandan, known for directing films like Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha, was brought on board after the project’s original director, Collin D’Cunha, exited the film earlier.

Reports from February 2026 had suggested that Advait would direct the revamped version of Dostana 2, starring Vikrant Massey, Lakshya and former Miss India World Sini Shetty. The project appeared to finally be moving forward after years of uncertainty and stalled development. Sini Shetty, who won the Miss India World title in 2022, is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. The film was expected to mark her Bollywood debut.

However, the latest report claims that Advait Chandan exited the project due to creative differences with the makers. At the same time, reports also suggest that the split happened amicably and there is reportedly no bad blood between the filmmaker and the production house. With Advait’s reported exit, Dharma Productions will now have to once again look for a filmmaker to lead the long-delayed sequel.

About Dostana 2 Journey

The journey of Dostana 2 has remained turbulent since its announcement in 2019. The film was initially launched with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya in the lead roles. The team had even completed portions of the shoot in Goa before production came to an abrupt halt in 2021 following Kartik Aaryan’s exit from the project.

At the time, Dharma Productions publicly announced that it would no longer collaborate with Kartik Aaryan. However, relations between the actor and the banner appear to have improved since then, with Kartik currently working with Dharma Productions on the upcoming film Naagzilla.

Over the years, Dostana 2 has reportedly undergone multiple script revisions and casting changes behind closed doors as the makers attempted to revive the sequel in a fresh form. Despite repeated setbacks, Dharma Productions has continued to develop the project instead of shelving it completely.

About Advait Chandan

On the work front, Advait Chandan was last associated with Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Vikrant Massey, meanwhile, continues to expand his film lineup after the success of projects like 12th Fail, while Lakshya remains one of Dharma’s rising young actors following his debut in Kill.
