Sanjana Sanghi, who is best known for her performances in Dil Bechara and Rockstar, has steadily carved a space for herself in the industry with her relatable screen presence and honest personality. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Sanjana opened up about the growing paparazzi culture, how things have changed, and why actresses should feel safe and comfortable while being photographed. Sanjana Sanghi SLAMS Paparazzi’s ’10x Zoom’ Culture
Talking about how drastically paparazzi culture has evolved in recent years, Sanjana Sanghi admitted that the current atmosphere often feels far more intense than before. She said, “It’s a bit… because I have been in a pre-pap world and the post-pap world. Like the paparazzi culture just about became really strong post Covid, you know. And that’s when I debuted. So earlier, I remember it used to be a little more relaxed. Now I am like this intense 10x zoom, like it’s a bit too much. I am like nobody wants to see our face, because the fancy lens came and then you know.”
The actress further acknowledged that actors are aware that public attention comes with fame. However, she explained that there are still moments when the constant scrutiny becomes exhausting. “It’s a tricky one, yaar. Because it’s like we know when we become actors that we are signing up for this. Some days you enjoy it. Some days you are like I am tired of this. So it goes between both. But in my personal experience, they have always been really respectful.”
The actress added a balanced perspective by adding, “There have been times and I have not liked the way they shot something, etc. And I have had made it known to them. And that as just as a request, that you know ‘I don’t think this is appropriate’. Or I would appreciate ki it’s not online. And they have also listened.”
Sanjana also highlighted how important it is for women in the industry to feel safe and comfortable while interacting with paparazzi. She called them out by saying, “But I think for every woman to feel safe in front of them is very important. So these weird angles and everything need to stop. Because we don’t want to… we will happily give photos, but we don’t want to feel conscious all the time.”
Sanjana Recalls Sharing A Cordial Bond With Paparazzi
At the same time, the actress clarified that she also shares a warm and respectful bond with many photographers who have been around since the beginning of her career. Recalling a viral moment where she hugged a paparazzo, Sanjana revealed that it happened because it was his birthday.
She said, “So ya it is… like you talk about his name, Shreyas, whom I gave a birthday hug to because Shreyas has been there since my first day. Like I remember my first trailer launch, my first song launch. So over the years you also build the equation, you know. They are like familiar faces and they are hardworking amazing people at the end of the day.”
Over the years, several actresses, including Jaya Bachchan, Janhvi Kapoor and Zareen Khan, have also spoken about the pressures and discomfort that can come with constant paparazzi attention. From invasive camera angles to excessive public scrutiny, many celebrities have raised concerns about maintaining privacy and feeling safe in public spaces.
