AR Rahman is making the headline ever since describing Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava as a ‘divisive’ film and hinted at ‘communal whispers’ and ‘power shift’ for his lack of work in Bollywood. The composer’s comments have drawn sharp responses from many, including actor-politician Kangana Ranaut.
The ‘Thalaivii’ took to her Instagram stories on January 17 and accused Rahman of prejudice, bias and hate. Along with Rahman, she also slammed designer Masaba Gupta for alienating her due to her politics. Read on to read all she said.
Kangana Ranaut Slams AR Rahman
On Saturday, Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram Stories and shared a video of AR Rahman speaking about communal bias in the industry. Along with it, the actress-politician penned a long note wherein she called the composer the most prejudiced and hateful person she knows. The ‘Dhaakad’ actress wrote, “Dear arrahman ji, I face so much prejudice and partiality in the film industry because I support a saffron party yet I must say I have not come across a man more prejudiced and hateful than you, I desperately wanted to narrate my directorial Emergency to you, forget narration, you even refused to meet me.”
She added, “I was told you don’t want to be a part of a propaganda film. Ironically Emergency was called a masterpiece by all critics even opposition party leaders sent me fan letters appreciating the film for it’s balanced and compassionate approach but you are blinded by your hate. I feel sorry for you”.
Kangana Ranaut Calls Out Masaba Gupta
In her following Story, along with slamming AR Rahman, she also spoke about how she was sidelined by designer Masaba Gupta for her politics. Kangana wrote, “arrahman ji everyone has their own battles, forget films the big designers who begged me to launch their jewellery and clothes in free fund ka campaigns because they claimed to be my best friends later refused to send my stylist clothes, they stopped talking to me or posting about me.”

Rahman’s ‘Communal’ Remark
During a recent interaction with BBC Asian Network, AR Rahman spoke about his absence from the Hindi film industry. Revealing the reason, he said, “Maybe in the past eight years, because a power shift has happened and people who are not creative have the power now.” The Oscar winning composer also added, “It might be a communal thing also, but it is not in my face. It comes to me as Chinese whispers that they booked you, but the music company went ahead and hired their five composers. I said, ‘Oh, that’s great, rest for me, I can chill out with my family.”
