A Kentucky woman was arrested over the weekend after allegedly driving her Tesla into a crowd of pedestrians, injuring at least four people.
Kaydence Carpenter was all smiles for her mugshot on Sunday, March 22.
Carpenter, 20, was allegedly caught on camera slowly reversing her black Tesla Model 3 in a parking lot in downtown Lexington. Then, the electric vehicle jutted forward suddenly, plowing into a crowd of people gathered on the sidewalk.
The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to an arrest citation obtained by Us Weekly.
WKYT was provided with security video that appears to show the vehicle hopping the curb and slamming into several people, sending some of them flying over her car’s hood.
Police did not disclose the nature of the injuries any of the four victims sustained in the crash. Information in their conditions was also unclear, though all four are expected to make a full recovery, cops said.
After slamming into the crowd, she allegedly continued driving the wrong way down a one-way street. People started chasing after her vehicle as she sped off.

Officers noted in Carpenter’s arrest citation that her actions “created substantial danger of death and/or serious physical injury to others.” Carpenter also allegedly displayed an “extreme indifference to the value of human life” with her actions, the police added.
Police who were at the scene and arrested Carpenter said that she had “bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, a variety of emotional effects,” and noted that “the odor of an alcoholic beverage radiated from her person.”
While searching her Tesla, police allegedly found a fake ID, documents stated.
The arrest citation indicates that Carpenter refused a breathalyzer test at the scene. In addition, cops allege she failed a number of field sobriety tests later on when she was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.
Carpenter has been charged with four counts of second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, reckless driving and licensee allowing a person under the age of 21 on premises where alcohol is sold, according to the arrest citation.

She was released hours later after posting a $5,000 bond.
Us tried contacting Carpenter for comment on Monday, March 23, but could not reach her.
Information on her attorney was not reflected in court records.
However, WKYT reported Carpenter appeared in court on Monday, March 23.
The station claims Carpenter’s attorney, who they did not identify, entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. The state asked that her driver’s license be suspended. The judge agreed it should be suspended until her case is resolved.
Her next court appearance is April 14.
