Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has issued his first statement following the controversy surrounding his upcoming production, Ghooskhor Pandat, after its title drew widespread criticism for allegedly being defamatory to the Brahmin community. While Pandey defended the choice of title, he also apologised for any hurt caused and confirmed that all promotional materials related to the film have been taken down. The film, starring Manoj Bajpayee, had faced backlash from the community over its name.

Taking to his Instagram, Neeraj Pandey wrote, “Our film is a fictional cop drama, and the term ‘Pandat’ is used simply as a colloquial name for a fictional character. The story focuses on an individual’s actions and choices and does not comment on or represent any caste, religion, or community. As a filmmaker, I approach my work with a deep sense of responsibility – to tell stories that are thoughtful and respectful.”

He concluded, “This film, like my earlier work, has been created with sincere intent and solely to entertain audiences. We understand that the title of the film has caused hurt to some viewers, and we genuinely acknowledge those feelings. In light of these concerns, we have decided to take down all promotional materials for the time being, as we believe the film should be experienced in its entirety and understood in the context of the story we intended to tell, rather than judged on partial glimpses. I look forward to sharing the film with audiences soon.”

UP CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Direct FIR On Ghooskhor Pandat Makers

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed strict legal action against Netflix and the producers of the upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat. This has led to the registration of an FIR in Lucknow over allegations that the film content insults caste identities and threatens social harmony. Uttar Pradesh Police stated that the case was filed after the trailer of the film, which recently went viral on social media, received widespread objections.

Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, Hazratganj Police registered the FIR against the film for its broadcast on OTT platforms and social media. Authorities mentioned that the complaint concerns alleged attempts to hurt religious and caste sentiments and to disturb public order. The FIR has been filed at Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow.
