New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd reportedly remains hospitalized with a bullet lodged in his lung after being shot in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, in Manhattan.

ABC News reported on Monday, November 17, that Boyd, 29, continues to be treated at Bellevue Hospital, describing his condition as critical but stable.

Boyd was involved in an incident outside the Sei Less restaurant in Midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning and was shot just after 2 a.m., police officials said.

According to ABC News, the athlete has undergone several medical procedures after being shot through the abdomen. The bullet remained lodged in his lung as of Monday, said the outlet, citing law enforcement sources.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” a Jets spokesperson previously told ESPN.

Earlier on Monday, the New York Police Department released two images of a person of interest in the shooting.

The person “is described as male, medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black sweatshirt, black pants, multicolored sneakers, and carrying a black bookbag,” the NYPD said.

Boyd’s Jets teammates expressed their shock over the shooting as they returned to training on Monday.

“I know some players who’ve communicated with him, I personally have not,” defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, 29, told the Jets’ official website.

Phillips, who previously played with Boyd when they were both signed to the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, added, “I just know there’s been a lot of answered prayers. It’s a blessing to know that he’s in stable condition, surrounded by his family with a lot of support around him, definitely for where the news originally was reported. There’s a lot of panic and a lot of emotion that goes into that. Not to lighten the situation, but I think people are … we’re a little more grateful knowing that he’s in stable condition now.”

“I’ll say something about KB, though … just such an energetic, such a positive person,” Phillips added. “And that year in ’22 we spent together, he was someone – as I was a new person [after four seasons with Buffalo] – who welcomed me with open arms, because he’s just so positive, wanting to know everybody, playing games, joking all the time. And even my time here with him, he’s still got that upbeat positivity, even while being on IR [injured reserve]. And I can’t wait to see a smile on his face again.”

Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert, 25, told the team’s official website, “It’s tough news to hear. You know, one of our guys, and you know we’re all thinking of him and wishing him well, and his family. So other than that, we’re going to keep everything in-house about what’s going on. Just thinking of him and his family.”

“So it’s time for us to come together … and hopefully everything will be alright,” Ruckert added.

Linebacker Jermaine Johnson shared in an X post on Sunday, “Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety. Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In your name, Amen🙏🏾.”
