On February 1, news of individuals opening fire outside Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai. Since the incident earlier this month, a case has been registered and investigation for the same is underway. In the past week, the main shooter and a few others have been arrested. Now, the police have release a statement with regards to how and why the accused said yes to carrying out the ‘mission.’ Read on to know all about it.

As per a recent media report, the main shooter and six other accused were recruited by the Shubham Lonkar gang through social media and local contacts. As per police sources, the youth were illegedly indoctrinated with messages that framed the shooting at Shetty’s home as a ‘mission’ by ‘Hindu sainiks’ to create fear and gain notoriety.

The report further stated that the individuals were lured in with promised of quick money, fame and a sense of identity. The main shooter was reportedly paid Rs 50,000 as an advance and promised a larger payout once the attack was carried out.

Earlier this week, the Mumbai Crime Branch – along with the UP Special Task Force, reportedly arrested seven more individuals in connection to the shooting at Rohit Shetty’s home. The shooter – Deepak Chandra Sharma, Sonu Thakur, Hrithik Yadav, Vinshu Kushwaha, Jatin Bhardwaj, and Vishal Thakur hail from Agra, Etawah, and Haryana.

Police sources have stated that two modules were involved – a Pune module that provided logistical support and a North India module that executed the attack. They noted that the Pune module received around Rs 60,000, while the UP module – of seven people, got Rs 1 lakh to carry out the firing. Police cautioned that these figures are yet to be verified as the accused have been changing their statements.
