Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt have been summoned by the National Commission for Women over the controversial lyrics of the song “Sarke Chunar Teri.” The panel described the song as objectionable, emphasising the importance of women’s dignity. Nora has been given a final deadline to appear before the NCW. The song, from the upcoming film KD: The Devil, has sparked significant controversy, prompting the NCW to take strict action against those involved in its creation. The actors were summoned over the song’s alleged offensive content. The NCW reiterated that “women’s dignity cannot be compromised,” marking the case as a critical issue.

Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt Summoned By NCW In Sarke Chunar Teri Song Controversy

The commission, which took suo motu cognisance of the matter, held a hearing on April 6. Nora’s legal counsel appeared before the panel, but the NCW rejected the representation through a lawyer and directed Nora to attend in person. She has been given a final opportunity to appear before the commission on April 27, according to a PTI report.

The hearing was led by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, who expressed serious concerns about the song’s lyrics. She stated that the content was not only objectionable but also undermined women’s dignity. Rahatkar dismissed claims from some involved that they were unaware of the lyrics’ meaning, asserting that such explanations did not justify the content’s impact.

During the proceedings, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, and representatives from KVN Productions appeared before the commission. They issued a written apology and admitted that the song hurt society. They also committed to promoting women’s empowerment over the next three months and will submit a report to the NCW. Additionally, Sanjay Dutt has been directed to appear before the commission on April 8, underscoring the seriousness of the case.

Director Comments On “Sarke Chunar Teri” Controversy

The song “Sarke Chunar Teri,” released on YouTube, quickly became controversial due to its sexually explicit lyrics. Following widespread backlash, the song has been removed from the platform. Director Prem denied that the controversy was a publicity stunt. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he clarified that the song was meant to be a lighthearted party number, not intended to provoke outrage. He explained that he wrote the original Kannada version, while Raqueeb Alam translated the Hindi lyrics. Prem admitted he was not fully aware of the exact wording in the Hindi version, which later drew criticism.

He also stated that the Kannada version of the song did not face any issues and was well-received in regions like Karnataka and Kerala. According to Prem, the misunderstanding arose from language differences and cultural context.
